When Brittany and Dan (#danandbrittmakeitlegit2017 on instagram) contacted me about photographing their Boldt Castle Wedding I sorta squealed along the lines of whenever we get ice cream for Emmett (I also squeal then, but so does he). They’d decided to come down from Burlington to get married at Boldt Castle in Alexandria Bay and have their reception at the Delta Waterfront Kingston.
We met early at Chic Hair for bridal party hair/makeup. Early is 8am because it can take a while to get across the border on a Saturday in August and we wanted to make sure we weren’t late to her wedding!
Once on the island we spent time getting ready inside the castle and then proceeded to the back side ceremony site where huge trees shaded us from a quickly shifting sun / cloud combo that was playing tricks on us threatening rain.
As emotional as weddings usually are this one was exceptional. Dan walking his mother down the aisle lead to a tearful hug at the end and when Britt walked out of the castle it may have caused a few people to tear up in the front row.
Britt and Dan said I do in front of an awesome backdrop of a castle with an amazing emotional ceremony; including a candle lighting to bond the two families together. We spent a bunch of time shooting family portraits against the castle and wandering around shooting couple’s portraits. As we were about to wrap up the portraits the skies quickly turned from sun/cloud to dark clouds and erupted in sheets of rain. We ran for the castle and made our way to the boats under the safety of umbrellas given to them by strangers also touring the castle.
We headed back to Kingston and made our way to the reception, stopping along the way to dry off and touch up hair (hers not mine). The reception was an equally emotional, yet hilarious roast of both Britt and Dan by their closest family and friends and a dance party that was full of battles and ripped pants (and a dessert table that made my heart happy).
Here’s a bunch of my favorites from the story of their day:
