Angel, Bryan and I met to talk about their wedding photography at the spot they had their first date (The Brazen Head Pub) in Toronto the night before I flew out for our annual family vacation at Disney. We talked about their plans for their wedding on a cool farm based wedding venue Woodstock ON. We had a great time getting to know each other (I really like to get to know your story as a couple) and swilled a couple of pints while laughing in an insanely noisy bar (The leafs had just won the Winter Classic Game).
They were involved in a Facebook contest run by another photographer that had the potential to win them their wedding photography package but really liked my work and wanted to cover their bases by having a backup plan. When they informed me a week later that they’d won the contest and wouldn’t need to have me as their wedding photographer they finished by asking me if I was available to photograph an engagement session in Toronto at the CNE in August. I hopped at the chance because it seemed like it would be a really fun opportunity to finally go to the CNE (yeah, I’ve never been) and I really enjoyed hanging out with them.
A little more than 8 months later in mid August, Angela showed up wearing a pink tutu and sparkly pink cons and I knew right away we were going to have a blast at the CNE. We wandered around the grounds and played games, rode rides, ate mini donuts and laughed at almost everything (ie: riding the gondola and passing by BMO field at the exact moment the Toronto FC scored a goal and they lit off fireworks that smoked us out). They even managed an outfit change in the CNE bathrooms! That’s dedication to making the most out of your engagement photography session.
In the end their venue fell through (due to licensing issues with the municipality) and they’re now getting married in Prince Edward County at Isaiah Tubbs Resort and have invited me to pop over for a couple of drinks when I’m done shooting the wedding I’m booked for on that day.
TL:DR didn’t get the wedding gig – shot an engagement session and made new friends.
Here’s a few of my favorites from their CNE engagement photos:
